ENO'S ONLINE MANIFESTO

It hit me all at once, as i was using more and more of the internet, less and less i was actually exploring. I was solely using youtube, discord and twitter; only consuming content. it legitimately felt mindnumbing. Despite the so-called algorhythm optimised to keep me engage at all times... it all started to melt together, in an amorphous sludge of wasted time consuming content that gets out of my mind the second i log off, unless the youtube video in question is an instant classic like Dan Olsen's nft video or hbomberguy's plagiarism video.

Why am I here?

well the issue was that i was solely consuming... solely lurking. And that bothered me somewhat. Im actually a creative person, im into fashion design and i study music, eventually wanna transform that into a career... but ive never found a place cool enough to post everything i make into one place

I originally planned this place to be a safespace for my NSFW work, but it ended up morphing into an online portfolio/blog type thing... here are my goals for this site.

  • Be a personal portfolio for all my work no matter the media
  • Be a safe place for my work to stay afloat without any kind of external moderation
  • Become a way to have a personal mark and meeting point of all my work and accounts

due to the sheer unpopularity of this method of mark making online, i'm going to still post on mainstream social media, but ill also try some alternatives, mainly cara and mastodon. cara for it's anti-AI stance, and mastodon for being a free and open-source project. Cause let's be honest... You shouldnt really need to pay anything online fr. if you look around for like an hour max, you will find a free and open-source alternative for literally any app. i remember as i was trying to customize my desktop on my laptop, and i found a niche product that visually organises your shortcuts, but it was like 12 bucks, then i found a random open-source copy on github 15 minutes later. The point is that unlatching from mainstream tech, paid tech, god forbid, even subscription based tech. you can do this without absolute tech knowledge

THE DEATH OF PERSONALISATION

Most mainstream social media and tech restricts any amount of customization to the point of absurdity. But to an efficiency extent, i get it, it makes for a streamlined experience all around... but it makes it soooooooo much difficult to get your actual aesthetic and artistic voice into your presence on there... which is weird for creative platforms like youtube, tiktok, or instagram. it gets pretty limiting. Either you actually commit to a single aesthetic for the entirety of your presence on that app, or you're doomed to look bland, thoughtless and disorganized. Having a place "handmade"

THE DEATH OF AUTONOMY

As the internet grew, tech knowledge and literacy went down. Privacy is a thing of the past, people dont know how tech works in the slightest, including me, and it only makes us more dependant to those who do which makes us less free less independant. In recent years, i've realised that one value that i wanna live up to is self-relience, being able to do things by myself, to become more able as time goes on. I can cook for myself, bake for myself, make clothes for myself. Being able to make things not only satisfies my need for creative expression.
